Two gestural bust-length portraits of costumed figures — each wearing a voluminous ruffled collar and wild upswept hair — share a single spiral-bound sketchbook page, rendered in rapid overlapping ballpoint or fineliner lines that scribble shadow, volume, and movement into being simultaneously. The left figure is the more resolved of the pair, with a legible face emerging from the tangle of marks, while the right reads as a looser, three-quarter variant study of the same subject.
