A close-cropped female portrait in which the face emerges luminously from a near-total black ground, framed by long dark hair that dissolves into the surrounding darkness. The technique is consistent with mezzotint or drypoint etching, evident in the velvety, granular blacks and delicate scratched lines articulating the facial features on heavy white paper.
